You know your business. I know what we can make the technology do.

I’m Janelle. I build websites, improve the ones people already have, and untangle the processes that make running a business harder than it needs to be.

You can come to me with “I need more customers” or “I’m spending half my day doing this manually.” You don’t need a list of technical requirements.

I’ll ask about your business, your budget, what you’ve tried and how you like to work. Then I’ll help you understand your options—and build the thing we decide will help.

Janelle Baird, web developer at Build With Matriarch

I started with my own business.

I’ve been in small business for over 15 years and coding solutions for 12 of those. It’s been about a decade since I took on my first paid website client.

Before that, I was an online greengrocer with a business to run and plenty of things I wanted the technology to do.

I’m a big old nerd. I love learning how things work, which levers move which stones, and what happens when you try something differently. That curiosity is how I went from selling vegetables to building websites.

Much of what I know started with something I tested in my own business. I worked through the bugs, learned from experts and got to grips with why a solution worked.

That experience still shapes how I approach your business. I want to understand the problem well enough to make a useful recommendation—and understand the code well enough to stand behind what I deliver.

Your website should earn its keep.

Your customers shouldn’t need cult-like devotion to make it through a slow, confusing website. And you shouldn’t need six workarounds and a plugin to get your work done.

I care about clear labels, pages that load promptly, checkout steps that make sense and information getting where it needs to go. Those details affect whether someone buys, whether they come back and how much work lands on your desk.

Sometimes an existing tool is a good fit. Sometimes we can build something that fits better. I’ll help you weigh that up, including what it will cost to keep using it.

I also like to build in ways to measure what’s working. Your business can teach us a lot. When we can see which changes help, you have better information for deciding what to do next.

Someone you can keep coming back to.

My goal is to become the person you email when you need the techy business stuff sorted.

The person who notices a security patch and asks whether you’d like it installed. Who explains your options in plain language. Who cares enough to check the details.

And who will absolutely celebrate an email saying, “Sales are up 20% since that checkout improvement!”

There are plenty of people who can build a website. I hope my clients think of me as caring, reliable and thorough, as well as a bit of a tech wizard.

Those are the things I value—and the way I want to work with you.
